But on the latest series of the Australian version of the show, the usual petty bitchiness reached a whole new and seriously disturbing level.
A group of girls in the house formed a clique and dubbed themselves the ‘Bitchketeers'. They then went on to bully and belittle the quiet and unique 17-year-old Alamela.
Although the bullies were criticised by the judges, none of them were eliminated, and the leader of the clique, 16-year-old Demelza, later went on to win the competition.
Check out a clip below to see a snapshot of what happened on the show, and then tell us on the comment board what you think about it. Did the Bitchketeers go too far?
Plus, pick up a copy of this month's Girlfriend magazine (August issue, Miranda Kerr cover) to read Alamela's side of the story and find out how she handled the bullying.
