From the first Pick it Up concert in Auckland last hollies comes Pick it Up 2 on October 1. Get your cute butts to Auckland's TelstraClear Events Centre to see artists like Scribe, Nesian Mystik, J.Williams and Savage bust a move - and with tix costing a mere 10 smackers, you could probably swap the coinage under your couch cushions for one! Better still, the gig is for under 18s only, so there won't be any big kids there to cramp your style (ner ner, older brothers and sisters!).
We here at GF love a hearty dose of Kiwi music, and because we simply couldn't wait for the show itself, sub-editor Karleigh collared Scribe - aka NZ rap's golden boy - to get a little preview.
GF: How long has it been since you've performed to a big crowd in NZ?
Scribe: I just performed with the Dirty [Records] crew on the P-Money tour - the Wellington show was off the hook!
GF:How pumped are you about droppin' rhymes at Pick It Up 2?
S:I haven't done an all-ages gig in a while, and I heard the audience was amazing for the first one so I'm really looking forward to it.
GF:As the gig's title Pick it Up suggests, the concert aims to teach kids about recycling and caring for the environment - what d'ya think about that?
S:It's a great message - we really need to start thinking hard about what we can do for the environment. Not littering and recycling what you can are such simple steps in the right direction.
GF: PIU2 is the hottest gig to be at these school holidays. What was your fave thing to do when you didn't have to be at school for a couple of weeks?
S:I just hung out with my friends and wrote music.
GF: We hear you have a new album in the works. What can you tell us about its sound?
S:Now that would be telling! [GF: While Scribble's being a tad coy, check out his MySpace (myspace.com/scribedirtyrecords) - there's a little sumthin' sumthin' called "A Million Miles" that might interest you.]
GF: How does the new record compare to The Crusader and Rhymebook?
S:It's even better! [GF: HOOGE call! Can't wait!]
GF:What's your favourite track on the new album?
S:They're all my favourites so far :)
GF: You've been The Man on the NZ hip-hop scene for ages. Who d'ya reckon are the other bright sparks we should be tuning our earphones to?
S:PNC and David Dallas - they're my label mates on Dirty Records. I've got both their albums spinning on my iPod at the moment.
GF:Do you have any messages for your fans?
S:Pick it up!
