Magazines like Girlfriend are a great way to keep up to date, entertained and informed about all things teen. But this month, after watching loads of teen TV, a whole lotta E! channel and Hannah Montana: The Movie, I've found that so many good messages aimed at you guys can also be found on-screen.
Life's not always as fun as Auckland's Rainbow's End (where we had a great day shooting our fash pages this month). TV dramas like NZ's Shortland Street and our Aussie addiction, Home and Away, depict teens going through pretty tough times and getting themselves into difficult situations - just like some peeps do in real life. But these shows prove that being true to yourself, accepting responsibility and apologising is often the best way to move forward.
We received a really cute Bebo message from a reader recently. She said she appreciated how GF doesn't judge anyone for decisions they've made in their lives. At GF, the team and I know (from experience!) that teen life brings loads of challenges and it's just not on to judge people - whether they're in the public eye or not - when we don't know the full story. We learn from our mistakes, but that's how we mature and become stronger people, better friends and amazing adults down the track.
The moral of my long-winded story? We can learn some pretty damn good lessons from TV, readers' stories in mags like GF, or even celebs who may have made bad decisions and have had to move forward in the public eye. Oh, and You can thank me later for your awesome excuse to be able to watch more telly!
