GF: So, how did you score your role on Shortland Street?
Ido: I had an audition mid-way through 2008, then got a callback at the end of the year letting me know I had a second audition. A week later I was the new Daniel Potts!
What's it like being the newbie on set?
It's been great. Everyone's been really helpful and encouraging, but at the same time I've had to work really hard.
Do you think you have anything in common with your character?
Yeah, I think there are a couple of similarities. We're both quite focused and go for what we want in life. In most other aspects, we're total opposites.
Your character's a bit of a rebel who reacts to peer pressure. How do you think teens should deal with their friends' expectations?
I think it's important to be true to yourself. Although it may be hard in the short term, you'll be respected for it in the long run. And if they're pressuring you to do something you don't want to do, you have to ask yourself, what kind of mates are they?
Have you had any embarrassing moments on the Shorty set so far?
Ha! Well, about two weeks ago I had some bad food the previous night, and while on set I did a deadly 'silent but violent' fart. Oops!
What other acting roles have you had?
This is actually my first major role. Prior to this I'd just done some TV commercials, so it's been awesome to get my teeth into this role and allow my acting to develop.
Dating according to Ido
You're going on a date! Did she make the first move or did you ask her? I'm definitely into the guy taking the lead. We all love to chase! It's all about guys stepping it up and putting themselves out there I reckon.
Will you be sending her flirty texts/Bebo messages before you meet up?
No, I think it's too easy to hide behind a text. I'm all about calling or talking face to face.
Where are you taking her?
I'd start with something relaxed and fun like a coffee or a game of tennis. We'd then go to a Japanese restaurant for dinner or go to a play. I like doing things that are a little bit different.
Will it matter what she's wearing?
Well yeah, kind of. I think it's always good to make an effort and look after yourself. But [it's] also [about] being comfortable and not going too over the top. Just be yourself!
Would you hold her hand?
I don't think I would hold hands on the first date, unless we were running across a road or something like that. I like to take things slow.
If you bumped into your ex, what would you do?
I'd turn around and run - haha, just kidding! No, I'd say hi and be courteous and introduce my date, but move on as soon as possible before it gets awkward.
Will you kiss goodnight?
I may give her a cheeky peck on the cheek, but I don't normally kiss on first dates.
