Is Valentine's Day always a disappointment? GF's resident boy, Rob, tells why guys suck at it...

Why are boys so bad at celebrating Valentine's Day? Well, basically coz it's a holiday for girls! Boys generally find it hard to show affection (even to people they're head over heels in love with), yet Valentine's Day is a whole holiday based on that very premise! Also, it's hard work! Girls don't really have to do much for their boy on V Day (i.e. guys can give or take the roses and teddy bears), but a guy needs to go all out to avoid being hit with the silent treatment for the rest of the month! So to avoid disappointment this year, be prepared for the following when 14 February rolls around...

Fiction #1: Everybody loves Valentine's Day!

Yeah, and Heidi Montag has a beautiful soul. (Note: she doesn't!) Honestly, no boy likes Valentine's Day. Find me a boy who says he likes Valentine's Day, and I'll show you a boy whose girlfriend is standing right behind him. We just go along with all the madness because we don't like to see our girlfriends cry. Much like chick flicks and shopping, Valentine's Day is boy hell. Mushy expressions of affection go against our nature - we'd much prefer to play the new Guitar Hero or do something involving a ball.

Fiction #2: Your gift will be awesome!

If by awesome, you mean tacky, overpriced and dead within 24 hours! Valentine's Day is the worst day for gift giving. Even the world's nicest guy (uh, Kevin Jonas?) would find the whole process annoying. Prices on roses, teddy bears and greeting cards are inflated tenfold on the day, which means dudes are left broke until sometime near Christmas.

Fiction #3: Your day will be so romantic!

Doubt it! All the pressure to do something amazingly romantic on Valentine's Day makes guys super-agitated. Your BF will be so consumed with trying to make sure that everything goes according to plan, that he'll most likely be tired and angry rather than romantic and, um, nice. (You'll probs be yelling at each other like an old married couple by the time the sun goes down!)

Sure, it sucks... but that shouldn't matter!

Even if they feel all of the above, a good boyfriend still goes through with all the Valentine's Day madness (no matter how tiresome and annoying it is) coz he knows how important it is to you. Seriously, if he really cares about you and loves you, why wouldn't he wanna go out of his way to show it and make you happy? Even if he has to slave for hours in the kitchen working on an insanely complicated production for a romantic Valentine's dinner, seeing your smile should make it all worthwhile (aww)! Remember, you're a girl and you deserve it - don't let him cheat you out of your special day of romance!
