The Bright Side
A funny girl is able to laugh at herself and the world. Being a chuckle factory doesn't mean you don't take ANYTHING seriously, it just means you're able to look on the bright/absurd/weird side of life. If you're trying to brush up on your LOLness, read a serious newspaper and see if you can come up with some offbeat takes on the stories. I.e. Is that a meeting of world leaders, or just a Really Boring Suit Convention?
Comedy = Tragedy + Time
And thank Edward (i.e. God)! Coz that means the next time you're waiting at the bus stop after the day from hell, carrying a massive bunch of bananas that your mum needs for cooking, and a sports car zooms by and coats you with mud, and THEN you see your crush, you've actually got a really funny story to tell tomorrow at school. Score!
Take Tips From The Pros
Yup, that means some serious TV time! Take Friends for example; all the characters get laughs differently - some make jokes (like Chandler), others are funny coz of their personalities (Phoebe is flakey, Joey is a flirt, etc). In order to be actively funny, you'll wanna brush up on your ability to make with the funny like Chandler. Watch and learn...
Honesty is Hilar
Why? Because life demands the impossible of us. You'll notice a lot of comedians take a self-deprecating stance - they make fun of and mock themselves. Embrace your quirks and flaws - when you can laugh at them, they actually make you funny.
LOL 101
1. Repetition: "LiLo is famous for fighting with her girlfriend, acting, having red hair, fighting with her girlfriend, being in rehab, being in paparazzi photos and fighting with her girlfriend."
2. Comparison: Compare the everyday with the random. "I'd say chatting with those footy players last night was about as scintillating as talking to a sausage - and at least you can eat a sausage."
3. Escalation: Taking things to the point of absurdity. "Have you seen what we can't take into the exam? Textbooks, rulers, calculators, unsharpened pencils, plastic plants, yellow shirts, devices involved with time travel and any goldfish named Barry."
